*Blog Tour: Death of a Mermaid by Lesley Thomson

*ecopy sent to me for review Today I'm on the Blog Tour for Death of a Mermaid by Lesley Thomson.

Freddy left her childhood home in Newhaven twenty-two years ago and swore never to return. But now her parents are dead, and she's back in her hometown to help her brothers manage the family fishmonger. Nothing here has changed: the stink of fish coming up from the marshes; the shopping trolleys half-buried by muddy tides; the neighbours sniffing for a new piece of gossip.
It's not what Freddy would have chosen, but at least while she's here she'll get to see her childhood best friends, Toni and Mags. At school, the three of them were inseparable. The teachers called them the Mermaids for their obsession with the sea, and with each other.
Then Mags goes missing, and Freddy must decide. Go back home to her new life, or stay in Newhaven and find her friend?

My thoughts?

Freddy Power left Newhaven when she was 18 and has never returned...until now. Her old pal, Mags had sent her a text to say her mum was ill (though not how ill). Freddy leaves her life and girlfriend in Liverpool to make the journey home. She's not sure what sort of reception she'll get as her brothers, Andy and Ricky thought she'd left on her own accord rather than their dad forcing her to go...

Andy asks her to stay at the house and she takes on her mum's Pet Hotel. A role she falls back into easily having loved helping to look after the "guests" when she was small. Her return is a total trip down memory lane - her gang - The Mermaids - Mags, Toni and Karen (although Karen's not been a mermaid for years). They all loved the sea and the Disney film, The Little Mermaid.

Karen works for the Power brothers doing the fish round but she seems totally minted - where else is she earning her money? Toni is now a cop and in a relationship with Freddy's brother, Ricky. She's investigating a murder/suicide which is a little too close to home.. When Mags goes missing Freddie is beside herself and calls on Toni to help.

It's a story about family, business, love, old friends as well as betrayals and secrets. I absolutely loved it and would highly recommend.
