*Blog Tour: The Home by Sarah Stovell

*e-copy provided for review by the publisher. Today I'm on the Blog Tour for the jawdropping The Home by Sarah Stovell.

When the body of a pregnant fifteen-year-old is discovered in a churchyard on Christmas morning, the community is shocked, but unsurprised. For Hope lived in The Home, the residence of three young girls, whose violent and disturbing pasts have seen them cloistered away…

As a police investigation gets underway, the lives of Hope, Lara and Annie are examined, and the staff who work at the home are interviewed, leading to shocking and distressing revelations … and clear evidence that someone is seeking revenge.

A gritty, dark and devastating psychological thriller, The Home is also an emotive drama and a piercing look at the underbelly of society, where children learn what they live … if they are allowed to live at all.

My thoughts?

This is a really dark, chilling and harrowing read. Three young girls are resident at "the home" which is situated in a bleak rural area in the Lake District.

They each have an abusive and/or traumatic home life and are being looked after by staff who wish they could be anywhere but there. The manager, Helen tries to make things brighter for the girls. It's when she's on leave to spend Christmas with her kids that Hope dies. Hope's soulmate, Annie, who is discovered with the body, believed they'd be together forever and is inconsolable.

What follows is a Police investigation into how Hope died and we find out more about their toxic home lives and what they believe is normal is anything but. The third girl at the home is 12 year old Lara who doesn't speak after witnessing something at home which we find out about later in the story.  I was totally absorbed in the story which is a compelling but distressing read with a twist near to the end that I didn't see coming at all!
