Bare & Bond Perfume Subscription: Wash me in The Water - January

Squeals - much excitement when I spotted a perfume subscription over on Stephan's InstagramInterest piqued, I popped over to Bare & Bond and signed up! (it costs a very affordable £14.95 a month for an 8.5ml spray bottle of EdP including p&p).

Each quarter, founder Frankee collabs with a new Perfumer. For the Winter Edition that perfumer was the one and only, Sarah McCartney from fabulous 4160Tuesdays (I'm already a fan having had their amazing Advent Calendar in 2015 and sample buys HERE plus other picks like London 1969 and #MrsGlossMadeMeDoIt, to name a few).

Your parcel will arrive in a letterbox friendly box (Yah!) which this Quarter has been illustrated by Bokani Tshidzu (it's stunning). It feels like a real treat upon opening it. Nestled inside is a thank you note from Frankee and an information card about that month's perfume (December's perfume was Captured by Candlelight, alternative January's Take me to the River and February's will be Red Queen).

The perfume is simply stunning - it has watery and grassy fresh herbal notes and is a blend of Frankincense, Rosemary, Mint, Water and Grass. If however you find not every perfume is for you each month Frankee cleverly includes a little friend box every 3 months so you can pass on perfumes which your friend(s) may adore.

If you're tempted - sign up HERE.

Westlab Mindful Bathing Salts

I spotted Westlab's Mindful Bathing Salts in Asda and snapped them up (£3.49 for 1kg). The Mindful salts are infused with CBD and scented with Frankincense & Bergamot Essential Oils. They make for a calming and restful soak.

They are presented in a huge re-sealable pouch.

Formulated with 100% natural magnesium rich Epsom Salts and Himalayan Salts which are infused with Frankincense, Bergamot and CBD which helps to promote tranquility.

To use: and two to three handfuls to a warm bath, hop in and relax. Emerge feeling calm and relaxed.

I'm already a fan of the brand and these salts are superb. You really do feel relaxed after use and they help with aches and pains. You can also pick them up at places like Holland & Barratt, TKMaxx and supermarkets (I now of course want to try more in the range!)

Feel Unique: Beauty Kit: BYBI Beauty, We are Paradoxx, Charlotte Tilbury, Guerlain & Crabtree & Evelyn

Recently launched is Feel Unique's Beauty Kit. Choose 5 deluxe samples each month for £12 plus £3.95 p&p (the postage charge is refunded in the form of a code). Of course, as soon as I found out (thanks Julie) I had to dive right in. Here's what I chose (your samples come in an airplane friendly clear zip top branded pouch).

I'm already a huge fan of BYBI Beauty Babe Balm so had to pick up a wee 10ml one. See my review HERE.

And of course I couldn't resist that Charlotte Tilbury dinkie! It's sooo cute! Guerlain's Meteorites Base 5ml was something I'd always wondered about. So I'm pleased to have a decent sized sample to try it out.

From Crabtree & Evelyn I chose their Evelyn Rose Soft Touch Face Foam 15ml as I'm always swayed by anything rosey. This is an excellent try-me size too.

My final pick was from a brand I wanted to try We Are Paradoxx Hangover Hair Elixir 15ml which is presented in a cute little hipflask! It supposedly contains real Irish Whiskey..

I'm actually pretty impressed with this new offering from Feel Unique and I'll definitely check it out again next month. Have you picked up a Beauty Kit yet?

BYBI Beauty: Booster Barrel

Having fallen head-over-heels for BYBI Beauty's CBD & Bakuchiol Boosters (REVIEW) I knew I wanted to try the others in the range. I spotted the Booster Barrel in Naturisimo's post Christmas sale (£36 instead of £48, and worth £52) and jumped in.

Inside the re-usable box is:

Strawberry Booster 15ml (this is a new to me booster, I also received one in the recent Content Natural Beauty Vegan Starter Kit - see HERE). It's a lush deeply nourishing booster which soften the skin, leaving it feeling comfortable and nourished.

Bakuchoil Booster 15ml which is fantastic and a natural retinol alternative. See my review HERE.

Blueberry Booster 15ml is perfect for protecting the skin against blue light - think laptop use, phone etc. A fuller review will come of this one as I've not really used it much yet or the Buriti Booster 15ml (brightens the skin and protects against pollution).

Did you pick anything up at the Naturismo sale?

February Buys: Zara Emotions Perfume Collection, Connock London, Old Faithful, Floral Street, Jordan Samuel & FU Beauty Kit

After a long January I jumped in and bought a few things:

Zara has brought out a fabulous affordable EdP perfume line called Emotions Perfume Collection in collab with Jo Malone. The shop was really busy after a long January (and the perfumes right at the till) so I was unable to linger and try them all out - I'll be back! I picked up two - 40ml of Vetiver Pamplemousse (grapefruit, mandarin & vetiver) (£15.99) and a 10ml rollerball of Fleur De Patchouli (peony, patchouli & guaic wood) (£5.99). Both are heavenly.

A travel set by award winning Connock London which features 4 x 75ml travel products - Manuka Honey Hand & Body Wash/Lotion and Andiroba Oil Hand & Body Wash/Lotion (£8 in the sale). These are very generous travel/try me sizes and so far I'm loving them (I'll try and keep a couple for my next trip!) A review is to come.

Old Faithful Makers' Balm Hand Balm which I picked up in the sale. This is a pot of delight and I'll review it very soon.

Jumping on the Jordan Samuel Skin bandwagon! I'm looking forward to trying The After Show Treatment Cleanser 94ml (£20 - I got it for £17 as I had a discount code). Again, review to come.

I tried a sample vial of Floral Street's Electric Rhubarb EdP in the Pick'n'Mix. Absolutely loved this fruity floral. Again, I had a discount code (and Feel Unique were offering 11% TCB at the time).

I'm loving Feel Unique's new Beauty Kit (5 deluxe samples for £12 plus £3.95 p&p (the p&p is redeemable in the form of a code) which comes with a clear zip bag (ideal for travel). I'm pretty chuffed with my picks this month and a proper review will follow (and brighter pictures - roll on light nights!)

Beauty Pie: My Top Eight

I've been a member of Beauty Pie over a year now! These are my top products of 2019ish. I waited a while to get Quantum Bronzer in Goldielux, and it's now been out of stock for a while. It gives my skin a subtle glow and I love it (back in stock end of February) (typical price £26 - members pay £5.45).

My favourite cleanser is JEJU Daily Multi-Phase Purifying Cleanser (typical price £28 - members pay £9.30). I'm also partial to the AM/PM Moisture Superinfusion). See my review of the cleanser HERE.

From Super Healthy Skin I adore the Amazing Sleep Oil (typical price £75 - members pay £14.89). Use this and wake up with plumped and glowing skin. I simply love the amazing Deluxe Body Moisture Creme (typical price £50 - members pay £12.05). I could quite honestly say this is my favourite Beauty Pie product! See my review HERE. First pot finished and I've found it's great to store lippies.

Best selling One Powder Wonder (typical price £26 - members pay £5.42) was in my very first order back in January last YEAR (I've just hit pan on my 1st one - it's a new one in the photo!) A great product to minimise shine and can be used as a primer or a setter. I love it!

I've dabbled with all the Superactive Capsules and have found that the Essential Ceramides+ (typical price £50 - members pay £7.61) suit me best. When my skin is needing something a little extra I reach for these - a deep hit of hydration and moisture.

My final two are lipsticks - I just love Futurelipstick Luxe Shine in Dusky Rose (typical price £25 - members pay £6.25). It's just such an easy colour to wear (and IMO suits everyone) and I love its glossy look (review). My second pick is Fantasticolour Sculpting Lipstick in Guilty Pink (link) (typical price £18 - members pay £3.76). I find it easy to apply and it gives the lips a nourishing pop of long lasting colour.

What are your buy-agains?

Koti Lifestyle: Nordic Beauty

I spotted Koti Lifestyle over on Emma's blog and rushed over to the website for a look-see. There was only one brand I'd tried before, the delectable FLOW Cosmetics and four other totally new to me brands (squeals).

I chose a round soap from Hetkinen (Pine & Peppermint), a pot of deliciously scented Latvian Kivvi Body Marmalade Begamot & Litsea Cubeba and Frantsila's Birch & Peat Shampoo.

Packaging is recyclable/reusable and I love the eco friendly re-use of packaging materials. Founders, Jenny and Tarleena are two Finns living in London who found it difficult to source their favourite brands from home. Luckily for us they've made them accessible to us too by setting up an online store in London. The range is from the Nordics+Baltics inspired by northern nature.

I love the simplicity and zero waste packaging of Hetkinen's Pine & Peppermint Salt Soap (£12 - 170g). Ingredients are carefully chosen and the soaps are formulated with as few ingredients as possible to keep them as minimalistic as possible. It has a gentle foamy lather and a delicate scent (you can use it on hair and body). This is a lovely soap which I really recommend (I'd buy it again!)

Frantsila's Birch-Peat Shampoo (£9.50 - 200ml) provides natural nourishment for normal-dry hair types. Formulated with herbs in an antioxidant rich formula. It'll help with hair growth, shine and body. I've enjoyed using this shampoo which gently cleanses and nourishes the hair.

My final pick this shop was Kivvi's Bergamot Body Marmalade (£12 - 120ml) a lush skin loving blend of butters and oils with the citrussy and aromatic scent of bergamot.

Next shop I want to check out Senja and stock up on some well loved items from Flow Cosmetics. Have you bought anything yet? (you'll get 10% off your first order if you sign up to the newsletter).

January Book Round-up

Here's what I've been reading in January. Copies marked * I've generously received from the publisher either directly or via Netgalley.

*The Other You by J S Monroe - I took part in the blog tour for this twisty read. See my review HERE. I absolutely loved it.

The Handmaid's Tale - by Margaret Atwood - The Grapic Novel by Renee Nault - this was bought with some of my Christmas Amazon vouchers. I devoured it in one sitting. It brings the whole story to graphic life. If you are a fan, you'll love it.

*Codename Villanelle by Luke Jennings - being a fan of "Killing Eve" I was keen to read the book the TV show is based on. There are many similarities and it's easy to place those we know from the show in the story.

We hear a lot about the mysterious organisation Villanelle works for and her back story too which is fascinating. We also remember how MI5 operative, Eve meets her husband Nikos before her obsession with assasin Villanelle takes over...

It's a brilliant read, fast paced and thrilling and #2 is nestling on my kindle right now. Book #3 will be picked up on launch date. Just great. Really recommend.

On My Life by Angela Clarke - Jenna is accused of murdering her soon to be stepdaughter and killing her fiance as well as hiding his body! The police also find something incriminating on her laptop and she's sent to prison even though she knows she's innocent. She finds herself in a nightmare and she's got no idea of how to get out. The story is fast paced and oh so twisty. She hides what she's been accused of but one of the most violent prisoners know and she makes Jenna's life unbearable. Prison life has been described so vividly you honestly feel you are there with her.

Her legal representation is pretty ineffectual and she lives for the infrequent visits by her mum and sister. When she finds out she's pregnant she must hide it for as long as she can... and I never expected that twist! A brilliant read.

*Dominicana by Angie Cruz - Fifteen year old Ana is married off to a man double her age with whom she has nothing in common. Her family see it as a stepping stone to other things including them joining her in America. Her husband Juan takes her away from her beloved Dominican Republic to start married live in America, New York City to be precise.

It's a shock to the system and Ana is confused, frightened and sometimes scared. They live on the top floor of a block of flats and with her husband, Juan working a lot she gets lonely and homesick. She decides one day that's it, she's going home only to meet Cesar, Juan's younger brother at the bus depot who persuades her not to leave.

With political turmoil brewing back home Juan leaves pregnant Ana in the care of his brother - she learns how to live life to the full - going to school, going shopping, starting a small business with Cesar - feeding his colleagues with food from home, having fun, going to the beach - all the while growing closer to Cesar.  As her feelings deepen she has to decide not only what's best for her but also her loving family back home.

I just loved Ana! She grows into a strong woman in the course of the book, who knows what she wants. The story is based on the author's own mother's story as an immigrant and others from the period in the 1960s. I so recommend it.

*Pine by Francine Toon - Lauren, her father and their dog, Jameson live alone at the edge of the forest in a tiny village in the Scottish Highlands. Everyone knows everyone else (and their business). Lauren's mother, Christine has been missing for 10 years. Her father, Niall can't bear talking about her so her daughter knows only what she can glean from others in the village. She was the love of his life and he misses her deeply, drinking to forget.

One Halloween night they are driving back home and spot a woman in the road and take her home. In the morning when Lauren awakens she is gone. Her dad denies all knowledge of her but Lauren sees her around and wonders. There are also strange circles left on the land and eerie happenings.

An atmospheric tale which is creepy and dark with a few twists along the way. I would really recommend.

From last month (awaiting publication):

*American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins - Lydia Quixano Perez, her journalist husband and young son, Luca live a middle class life in Acapulco, Mexico. She's a bookshop owner and loves her life. Her husband has written a tell-all story on the local jefe of the newest drug cartel and Lydia is surprised when she finds out it's about Javier, the man who buys books from her store and with whom she's formed a friendship.

They should have taken more care and been more aware there could have been a backlash from the story he wrote. A tragedy changes the family's lives forever and Lydia and Luca find themselves on the run. The safest place for them to be is in America, away from the reach of the cartels. The story is fast paced, harrowing, tense and you really feel their fear. They meet two sister, Soledad & Rebecca who teach them how to ride the gruelling la bestia to reach el norte, taking them further away from their lives before and from the grasp of Javier and the cartel.  An outstanding book which was one of my top reads last year.

*If I Never Met You by Mhairi McFarlane - 36 year old Laurie has been in a relationship with Dan for 18 years. They met at University and he's the love of her life and she vice versa - or so she thought.. They work at the same law firm and live together so when he drops the bombshell that he feels they should split up she's understandably devastated.

She wants to keep it from her colleagues for as long as possible - but when she hears on the grapevine that Dan hasn't told her the real reason for their split she knows she can't contain the truth for much longer.

One evening she's stuck in a lift with drop-dead-gorgeous Jamie, a hot-shot young lawyer and they discuss her situation. He suggests they pretend to be dating - for her to get back at Dan and let him see what he's missing and for him to raise his chances of advancing his career. It's a win-win situation..or is it?

Laurie's best pal from Uni days, Emily believes it'll end in tears but once she sees Jamie in the flesh she readily agrees it's a great idea!  Along with loved up (and sexy) instagram photos and gushingly real Facebook messages their colleagues can't or won't believe it's for real and one of Laurie's Alpha Male colleagues has the audacity to believe he should have been first in line for her affections!

A meeting with her estranged dad takes her back to her past and her mum and Jamie help her come to terms with it. She meets Jamie's mum, dad and best pal who think she's wonderful and as she grows closer to him, she begins to fall head-over-heels but has to keep reminding herself it never can be.. A gorgeous novel I fell totally in love with. It has sadness, heartache, friendship, funny moments, happiness and ultimately love. Amazing read.

Beauty Pie Review: Month #13 (2)

Of course when Wonderscrub arrived at Beauty Pie I had to have another January buy! It's absolutely fantastic and makes the skin glow. Review is forthcoming for this baby! (Typical Price £35 - members price £6.35). I also picked up Fantasticolour Sculpting Lipstick in Guilty Pink (Typical Price £18.00 - members price - £3.76). January: Lately I've Been Loving

Oh January, such a long skint month! This January I've been doing #DryJanuary for the very first time. On the whole I've not craved wine and gin too much having found some excellent alcohol free alternatives. I have less aches and pains, have been sleeping better and feel more alert but haven't experienced huge energy bursts or glowing skin! Definitely for me moderation is the key (and I'm very much looking forward to my first glass of chilled white wine on the 1st Feb!)

This Scavi & Ray Alcohol Free Sparkling which I picked up locally at The Fine Wine Company is almost as good as real thing! (I also tried a lot of horrific sparklers). This has helped me through weekends enormously.

Zero Beer wise our top picks for flavour went to Birra Moretti and Budweiser Prohibition. In fact, if I feel like a drink mid-week I'm likely to pick up one of these!

I placed an order for Square Root Soda while browsing for alcohol free alternatives. Some were hits and some misses for our tastebuds. I especially liked their non-alcoholic negroni spritz and their collab with North Brewing - Grapefruit Sour Shandy I'd pick these ones up again.

A January meet up with the #BookBloggingBelles (you were missed Jill!) Thanks to Joanne for organising and Kelly for the photos, as always! A lovely catch up with Sarah and Sandra too and a visit to Portobello Bookshop (lunch+books+chat = perfect!)

My friend Nardin gave me this beautiful full size bottle of Shay & Blue's White Peaches Perfume for my Christmas. I absolutely adore this perfume which is perfect for spring & summertime. It's an absolute burst of fruity freshness with a light sweet touch. It featured in my perfumes for Spring POST.

And of course, I now need latest launch in my collection (and might be tempted after payday!) Blackberry Woods is a blend of juicy blackberries complemented with neroli, lemon and cypress.

I think the mouthwatering FRUIT range is the one I most identify with (although I love Dandelion Fig (which also featured in Five Perfumes for Spring).

I totally "needed" this delicious Blood Orange tea which I picked up locally at Harvey Nics. It's really delicious! I'll definitely explore more from this BRAND

I picked up my first Cadbury's creme egg on 30th December (I know it's way too early). Gives me pure joy to see them land straight after Christmas (I'm also very partial to mini eggs).

Picking up sale items at Blackwells in Edinburgh (I had enough points for one book free!). I also received a cute bird promo bag with the Almanac. It's the little things...

I drooled over this little ILIA Beauty kit and when Naturisimo were offering 20% off gift sets I dived straight in! The colours are absolute perfection and I'm so happy I took the plunge.

Discovering beautiful Finnish online shop Koti Lifestyle (based in London) via Emma's Blog. Of course, I dashed over for a look. The only brand I know (and have used products from is FLOW Cosmetics (much gorgeousness) all others are brand new! I picked 3 products from the 5 brands currently available. Trying them right now and it's all good...
