October Books Round-Up

Where is this year going!? I can't believe we are at the end of October already! Here's what I've been reading in October. Marked * means I've kindly received the book from the publisher directly or via Netgalley (it's been a bit of a slow month reading wise though I did complete my Good Reads Challenge!)

*The Nesting by C J Cooke - I took part in the blog tour. See my review HERE.

*Deadly Cry by Angela Marsons (DI Kim Stone 13) - I absolutely love this series and Kim! It's not published until next month so I'll share my review then. It's brilliant and I highly recommend it.

*Trace Evidence - A Kate Carpenter Thriller #2 by Vanessa Robertson - the author very kindly sent me an e-copy. I absolutely love this series featuring Kate Carpenter, who works in art recovery although in this outing she's acting private detective to look for her missing school friend. Unable to look for Bea from home in Edinburgh she sets out down memory lane, even staying with her folks in her old bedroom at home!

The clues are very thin on the ground as it seems Bea lead a very private existence until Kate finds things that are very out of character in her home. She enlist the help of Pete, her ex whom she's back in a relationship with. Her ex Chris is still lurking on the edges, sending her photos and anonymous emails. It's something she knows she needs to nip in the bud but for now all her energies are spent searching for Bea.

It's a twisty read which I really enjoyed. I liked seeing Kate back home in a family setting and being lucky in love for a change. Very enjoyable, I'd really recommend. See my review of book #1 HERE.

*The Malan Witch by Catherine Cavendish - I really enjoyed this spooky wee tale. Robyn Crowe goes to her sister and brother-in-law's newly renovated cottage - Malan Cottage - to grieve the loss of her husband. As soon as she's inside she feels that something isn't quite right. And why is the crow outside watching her...and waiting..

All is not as it seems. As local legends go, the cottage was once home to two malevolent sisters who were the local witches. They were burned alive for all the wrong doings they did centuries ago and their evil spirits were trapped inside the cottage for all eternity.. that is, until Robyn's sister accidentally releases one..

It's now up to Robyn, with a little help from the local Witch to banish her forever. I found the story dark, creepy and atmospheric and I didn't see that little twist at the end coming. Would recommend.

What have you been reading this month?
