*Blog Tour: Payback by Claire MacLeary

*I received an e-copy of the book free of charge. Today I'm on the blog tour for the fantastic Payback by Claire MacLeary (Maggie Laird & Wilma Harcus #4). I just love that pair!

When police are called to a murder scene at the home of Aberdeen socialite Annabel Imray, they are under pressure to get a conviction, and fast. The last thing they want is the distraction of a series of baffling break-ins. The victims, all of them women, are terrorised: just how did the intruder know so much about them?
Meanwhile, local PIs Maggie Laird and Wilma Harcus are at rock bottom, their bills mounting. As Maggie prepares to sell her home and contemplates dissolving the agency, Wilma goes off-piste to get a loan. But when the clock starts ticking on repayment, she realises the price is too high.
And before long, Maggie herself is in grave danger. Wilma fears the worst. Can she find her before it's too late?

My thoughts?

Maggie is struggling with the bills at the PI business as well as still missing her husband and feeling so tired and run-down, with never a minute for herself. Her old pal Val, who lives the life of luxury with her rich husband in Dubai tries to convince her to let Big Wilma go and take an intern on instead.

But Maggie feels tied, Big Wilma is her friend, makes her laugh and has saved her life more than a couple of times. She looks into selling her home and enlists two estate agents to give her valuations. She wants to make sure her kids want for nothing.

They take on a case of a missing cat which the Police wouldn't touch with a bargepole and it leads them on a merry dance. The Police meanwhile are investigating the murder of a celeb PR which seems to be connected to a string of thefts. DI Alan Chisholm is under pressure from upstairs to get the cases solved pronto.

As ever, Big Wilma is forever watching Maggie's back and it's a great tale of friendship with plenty of laugh out loud moments and even a 'lil' bit of romance for Maggie. Would highly recommend as it's a great read.
