Here's what I've been reading in September:
The death of an old man in Glasgow seems to be linked to the island and DS Michael McNab investigates. He feels he should also go to the island to see if he can find anything which ties the cases together although someone tries to stop him. It's a fast paced story with many twists and turns (and kept me up burning the midnight oil). As the series is now on book #11 the characters almost feel like friends! Highly recommend this book and the whole series.
Saving Sophie by Sam Carrington - Seventeen year old Sophie is brought home drunk by the police after a night out. The next day she can't remember a thing and finds out that her friend Amy is missing. Her mum Karen has issues of her own and suffers from anxiety and fear following an attack. When the body of a young woman is found they both find it hard to cope..especially when they find out they know who the victim is...a fast paced read which had me on the edge of my seat for most of it. A cleverly weaved story which I'd recommend.
Hide & Seek (DI Helen Grace #6) by M J Arlidge* - after being left with that massive cliffhanger in the last book I couldn't wait to start book 6. It so didn't disappoint in fact I raced through it in just over a day.
Helen in incarcerated in HMP Holloway and depised by everyone. Days are long and she's forever watching her back. A body is found in a cell which isn't a death by natural causes and the race is on to find the killer before they target Helen..
On the outside friend and colleague Charlie is doing all that she can to clear Helen's name. A fast paced and edge of the seat read. Can't recommend it highly enough. It's a must read book and series.
The Other Mrs Walker by Mary Paulson-Ellis - I had the real pleasure of meeting Mary (as well as Helen and Lesley!) at an authors and bloggers event Joanne at Portobello Book Blog organised. The book is a real treasure. Exquisitely written the story totally draws you in. It's set mainly in Edinburgh but also in London. It follows the story of Mrs Walker who dies alone in her flat in Edinburgh leaving behind not much but a faded emerald dress..
Margaret Penny moves back to Edinburgh after 30 odd years in London. Moving in with her elderly mother is strange, they've never been close and at times Margaret finds it hard. Through her mother she finds a job unravelling Mrs Walker's life and finds out secrets and connections she'd never expect. A really thought provoking read and one of my favourites this year.

Buy Buy Baby by Helen MacKinven** - The story is set in and around Glasgow and features two very different women who want the same thing - a baby.
Carol's son died in an accident and she lives alone with Jinky the dog after the breakdown of her marriage. She loves a glass of wine (or three) and has a handbag buying ebay habit. Julia on the other hand is a career girl with a gorgeous flat and a string of failed internet dates. Mysterious Dan woos the two women but the much wanted baby comes at a price! An absolute brilliant read which had an ending I wasn't quite expecting. Really enjoyed it.

Not Forgotten by Lesley Ann Anderson** - Seventeen year old Anna Munro tells her dad Mick she's psychic which he finds hard to accept. Her papa Henryk understands what she's going through and takes her to Poland to discover her roots and to the exact spot her great grandmother was shot by the Nazis.
Mick's first love Ruth comes back to the town to find him. She too lost her mum at a young age and hasn't really been able to move on. It's a story of love, loss and understanding. Would recommend.
