December: Lately I've Been Loving

Seems like I've had to rush posts to get all of them done before the New Year!

I was recently sent not.a.sponge Bamboo Charcoal Face* to review and so far my skin is loving it! It has helped to clear up blackheads round about my chin, nose and forehead. A full review will follow soon!

I love visiting our local German Market in December - nothing beats their Mulled Wine with a shot of Brandy or Amaretto. Nom, nom, nom. I also love the salted pretzels you can buy there.

My boss gave me some lovely gifts this year and one of them was a box of Prestat Chocolates - simply delicious and very luxurious.

More sweeties! Have been enjoying "helping" hubby eat these delicious Hotel Chocolat Rum Soak Sultanas

One of my favourite products this month has been Conscious Skincare - Soothing Hand Cream for Hardworking Hands 50ml* - see my review here.

I've also been enjoying a skinny latte in my new favourite cup - thanks Laura!

And last but not least...have been enjoying a real Christmas tree this year.

What have you been loving this month?

December Books & a yearly round-up

Having read no books in November!! I managed to read 3 in December.

Blog Inc. by Joy Deengdeelert Cho - I found this book really quite interesting although a bit Americanised in bits. I found the chapters on SEO and growing your blog the most interesting.  A useful read.

the first phone call from heaven by Mitch Albom - I'm a huge fan of Mitch Albom's books especially Tuesdays with Morrie.  The story follows some residents from a small town start who to receive phone calls from the afterlife. I quite enjoyed it but it didn't leave me thinking like his other stories have done.

Necessary Lies by Diane Chamberlain - simply could not put this book down! Jo from Beauty and the Books sent it to me to read - thanks Jo!

Newlywed Jane Forrester straight out of University starts work as a Social Worker (much to her husband's dismay). She is sent to the rural Tobacco fields of Grace County. She discovers the families there live in extreme poverty. One of the families she works with is the Hart family.  She discovers a secret which involves Ivy Hart who is fifteen and she decides to help her risking her career and marriage.

I had set myself a challenge to read at least four books a month in 2013. Here's how I got on:

January - 3 (link)
February - 2 (link)
March - 1 (link)
April - 1 (link)
May - 4 (link)
June - 3 (link)
July - 3 (link)
August - 2 (link)
September - 3 (link)
October - 5 (link)
November - 0
December - 3 - see above.

My favourite books this year:

Forgive Me by Lesley Pearse
The Wicked Girls by Alex Marwood
Keeper of the Light by Diane Chamberlain
One Step too Far by Tina Seskis
The Shadow Year by Hannah Richell
Alice Bliss by Laura Harrington
The Villa by Rosanna Ley
The Shoemaker's Wife by Adriana Trigiani
A Serpentine Affair by Tina Seskis
The Last Runaway by Tracy Chevalier
Necessary Lies by Diane Chamberlain

You can buy all these at Amazon.

Have you been doing a book challenge this year?

Aromatherapy Associates Miniature Bath & Shower Oil Collection

This time of year I love to have a soak in the bath every evening and one of my favourite things to use is Aromatherapy Associates Bath & Shower Oils*.

I was sent the Miniature Bath Oil Collection* (9 x 3ml - £32) to review.  It's gorgeous!  It contains 9 mini bath oils which are single use (but I tend to use one over two baths as they are quite potent).

This set is a best seller. A blend of natural oils with nothing else added.  Add to the bath or smooth onto the body before showering.

My all time favourite Aromatherapy Associates Bath & Shower Oil is Deep Relax although I'm a recent fan of Inner Strength.

Included in the set is:

Deep Relax: with vetivert, camomile and sandalwood essential oils. Helps to restore peace and tranquility and gives a good night's sleep.

Light Relax: with lavender, ylang ylang and petigrain. Helps to unwind and ease a tired body.

Destress Mind: with wild camomile, petigrain, frankincense and rosemary which clears the head and helps to de-stress.

Destress Muscle: lavender, ginger, black pepper and rosemary. This is ideal to use after exercise.

Revive Evening: with geranium, patchouli and ylang ylang. Helps to pep yourself up and revive.

Revive Morning: with pink grapefruit, rosemary and juniper berry. Great for getting you going in the morning.

Support Equilibrium: geranium, rose, frankincense and bergamot. This helps with emotional stress.

Support Lavender & Peppermint: with lavender and peppermint essential oils. This is cooling, reviving, helps headaches and great after a day sunbathing.

Support Breathe: with eucalyptus, peppermint, pine and tea tree. It helps to sharpen the mind and clear stuffiness.

What's your favourite Aromatherapy Associates product?

Erb Princess Pa Earth Minerals Collection

A while back I was sent Erb Princess Pa Shower Gel* (230ml - £18) which is paraben and mineral oil free (although it does contain SLS).

Pattree Bhakdibutr, a leading Thai fashion designer founded Erb in 2000.  she was seduced by the Siamese Royal Court recipes and rituals of fine living women who pampered themselves with beauty regimes and indulgent botanical preparations.

A percentage of the proceeds will go to fund the work undertaken by HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha's Royal Initiation Social Projects. You can buy the range from Harrods.

Pure mineral waters revive and encourage skin cell renewal and Sacred Lotus is a flower renowned for healing and is rich in spiritual symbolism.

The shower gel is attractively packaged and would make a great gift. It has a light scent and is pleasant to use.

Quintessentially English Rose Gift Box

My good friend Nardin at Live...Laugh...Love sent me a gorgeous hamper full of goodies - edibles, beauty and a candle. I'll do a full post of what she sent me after Christmas. I'm not good at keeping things so I must admit I did peek....and one of the lovely gifts was this beautiful rose scented gift box (from a company I've not heard of before!) The gift comes packaged in a lovely box.

Included in the set (which is truly pampering) is:

English Rose Bath Salts (100gms) - these smell divine and also contain rose petals. Makes for a great pampering bath. It is scented with Rose Absolute, Rose Geranium and Jasmine.

A mini bottle of English Rose Bath Oil - this smells deeply of roses. It can help aid relaxation. I've tried this once so far and the scent fills the bathroom and leaves the body smelling of roses. Blissful.

English Rose Organic Soap - this is topped with rosebuds - it's very feminine and pretty and smells like an "English rose garden".

Rosy Cupcake Bath Melt - beautifully presented in a tiny organza bag, this rose scented bath melt is simply gorgeous. Made with coconut and shea butters it moisturises the skin leaving is silky smooth.

I'll do fuller reviews when I try the product out. Thanks Nardin - a perfect gift for me as I love soaking in the bath and rose scents - you know me so well!

Have you used any Quintessentially English products?
