I've been wanting to make this lip balm for ages ever since seeing the recipe in Handmade Living magazine (March issue). The recipe comes from Emma at The Little Soap Company.
It's so easy to make! I got 3 x 5ml pots and 1 x 20ml pot with the recipe (see below). I picked up most of the ingredients online at G Baldwin & Co.
Lip Balm Recipe:
half an oz (3tsp) grated or roughly chopped beeswax (I bought it in small nibs)
1oz (approx 6tsp) Coconut oil (I got the solid stuff by mistake - but it worked ok once melted)
1 and a half tsp Lanolin
three quarters of a tsp Vitamin E
2tsp hard honey
three quarters of a tsp peppermint or lavender essential oil (I used chamomile)
Cosmetic jars
Method:
Boil some water in a pan and put your bowl containing the beeswax, coconut oil, lanolin and Vitamin E in on top of it making sure the bowl doesn't touch the bottom of the pan. Use a chopstick to stir.
Remove from the heat and add the honey and your oil of choice. Whisk well with the chopstick and distribute the oil throughout the mixture. Pour quickly into your pots (I had to spoon mine in as it was quite thick).
Leave to cool until hard - approximately 3 hours. I was pretty pleased with the results.
